Chaucer’s Man in Black’s statement “y am sorwe, and sorwe ys y.” In the remainder of the chapter, I will return to a consideration of Spenser’s introductory description, connecting this figure to the Wandering Jew and the Old Man of Chaucer’s Pardoner’s Tale.
